What makes a split system air conditioning unit?

Split system air conditioning units are made up of 2 main components: an indoor and outdoor unit.

First there is the Indoor unit which is mounted in the room you would like to heat or cool, the indoor unit contains an air filter, air return, condensation drain, expansion valve, evaporator coil and a fan. Air filters are easily accessible for cleaning purposes, these should be cleaned or replaced regularly for the longevity of the evaporator coil and the cleaner air produced from the indoor unit.

The second unit is called the outdoor unit, this contains the key components for your a/c to function properly. The key components consist of the condenser, compressor and cooling fan.
